Airports of Thailand losses climb to US$123 million in June quarter

Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has reported a net loss of 4.1 billion baht (US$123 million) for the three months to June 30, a deterioration from a net loss of 2.9 billion baht in the same three months in 2020. Read More » Revenue rose 9.1%, to 1.9 billion baht, AOT said in a regulatory filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Total expenses increased 15.9%, to 6.2 billion baht. AOT, which manages six airports in Thailand including Bangkok's Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi facilities, said new strains of COVID-19 represented an ongoing challenge. "The profitability ratio of AOT has decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020, which has intensified. The severity is likely to persist due to the mutation of a virus affecting the aviation and tourism industries of Thailand," AOT said in its financial accounts. Thailand recently restricted domestic flights into and out of COVID-19 hotspots as part of efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. Thailand has been recording about 20,000 new COVID-19 infections a day.
