Chinese carriers adding back capacity to domestic market: OAG

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) increased seat capacity by 22.9%, to 1.7 million, in the week of August 23, from 1.4 million in the previous seven days, figures from travel data company, OAG, show. Read More » Similarly, China Southern Airlines (CSA) seat capacity rose 18.7% week-on-week, to 2 million, and Air China added 12.7% more capacity to reach 1.3 million seats. "Over 1.4 million domestic seats were added week on week while international capacity fell slightly. Less than 1% of all seats in the Chinese market are allocated to international services. That must change for any recovery to begin," OAG said. In contrast, capacity in Australia was cut by 22% week-on-week, to about 480,000 seats, and capacity in Southeast Asia was 17.7% lower at 2.1 million seats, OAG said.
