Japan Airlines adds more cancellations to its domestic network

Japan Airlines (JAL) has suspended another 2,232 domestic flights from September 3 to September 30. Read More » This latest update means 9,142 domestic flights have been withdrawn from JAL's September domestic schedule. As a result, JAL will be flying 65% of its normal services for the month, down eight percentage points from an operation rate of 73% outlined in JAL's previous schedule update on August 11. It also is below the oneworld alliance member's 70% domestic operation rate for August. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to customers who have booked flights on the reduced schedule, but we would like to ask for understanding from our customers during this unprecedented time," JAL said. Japan has been battling a sharp rise in COVID-19 infections, with the number of new daily cases reaching a peak of 26,050 on August 27. The case numbers have since declined, with 14,963 new COVID-19 infections recorded yesterday, the World Health Organisation has reported.
