Read More » The region's carriers posted a 4.4% improvement in international cargo tonne kilometres (CTK) for the 31 days compared with the same month in 2019. The July figure was up from 3.9% growth in June. Capacity, or available cargo tonne kilometres (ACTK), declined 19.5% from 2019 levels, while the cargo load factor was up 17.6 percentage points at 76.5%. "Demand is being affected by an easing of momentum in key activity indicators in Asia and by congested supply chains," the IATA report said. The association said the Delta variant of COVID-19 was impacting global supply chains. "The Delta variant of COVID-19 could bring some risks," IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. "If supply chains and production lines are disrupted, there is potential for a knock-on effect for air cargo shipments." Globally, CTKs increased by 8.6% in July from the same month in 2019. Comparisons with 2020 levels were not meaningful given the restricted air travel of last year due to COVID-19.
