Hong Kong International Airport third runway reaches pavement milestone

Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) said yesterday the pavement work had been completed for Hong Kong International Airport's (HKIA) new third runway. "With the completion of reclamation and runway pavement works, we are confident the new runway will commence operations next year as planned," So said. "Other works, including expansion of Terminal 2 (T2), construction of the T2 Concourse, a new automated people mover system and a high-speed baggage handling system will be completed in 2024 on schedule and within budget." Construction of the third runway, which will lift HKIA's annual capacity to 120 million passengers and 10 million tonnes of cargo when completed, began in 2016. The airport handled 71.5 passengers in 2019 and 74.7 million in 2018.
