Tata Group and SpiceJet's Ajay Singh bid for Air India: report

Indian conglomerate, Tata Group, and the chairman of SpiceJet, Ajay Singh, have submitted bids to acquire Air India under the Indian government's process to privatise the airline, local media has reported. Read More » The Tata Group owned Air India until it was nationalised in the 1950s. The leading Indian conglomerate is a joint-venture partner with Singapore Airlines Group in Vistara. It also is the parent company of AirAsia India. Media reports said Singh submitted a bid in a personal capacity and was working to establish a consortium to take over the airline. The Indian government has been trying to sell debt-laden Air India for several years. The deadline for expressions of interest (EOI) to buy 100% of Air India, 100% of Air India Express and 50% of Air India SATS Airport Services Private Ltd has been pushed back on numerous occasions in recent years.
