China Southern Airlines reports 60% drop in local traffic from COVID-19 outbreak

China Southern Airlines (CSA) carried 4.5 million passengers on its domestic flights in August, down 59.2%, from 11.2 million in July. Read More » The August figure was 63% below the 12.2 million domestic passengers flown in the same month in 2019. CSA's monthly traffic report detailed the airline cut domestic capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), by 47.6% in August compared with July. Domestic ASK were 45.9% below pre-COVID-19 levels of August 2019. During the month, CSA added two A320neo family aircraft and one ARJ21 to the fleet. Last month, China introduced strict containment measures in response to a fresh outbreak of COVID-19.
