Air China's domestic passengers more than halved in August

Air China flew 3.2 million passengers on its domestic network in August, less than half the 7.6 million passengers carried in July. Read More » The airline's monthly traffic report said the emergence of local cases of COVID-19 and government initiatives to suppress the outbreak were behind the decline in passenger numbers. Domestic capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was reduced by 46% for the month compared with July. Against pre-COVID-19 activity, Air China's domestic passenger numbers and ASK were down 62.8% and 43.5%, respectively, from August 2019 levels. Passenger load factor on the domestic network for August was 57.8% compared with 74.6% in July and 86.1% two years ago. During the month, the Star Alliance member added three A320neo family aircraft to its fleet and retired one business jet.
