Read More » A 20-year forecast released on Thursday predicts a rebound in China will drive 5.4% annual passenger growth and demand for 8,700 aircraft as the size of the commercial fleet doubles. Two thirds of deliveries will be for growth and just a third for fleet replacement, Boeing’s 2021 Commercial Market Outlook predicts. Single-aisle jets are expected to account for almost 6,500 deliveries and the growth will mean China will require more than 400,000 new aviation personnel by 2040. “The rapid recovery of Chinese domestic traffic during the pandemic speaks to the market’s underlying strength and resilience,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes China marketing managing director, Richard Wynne. “In addition, there are promising opportunities to significantly expand international long-haul routes and air freight capacity. Longer term, there is the potential for low-cost carrier growth to build on single-aisle demand.” The forecast also pointed to a US$1.8 trillion market opportunity in commercial aviation services in the region.
