The oneworld alliance has supported a global target of using 10% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its flights by 2030, labelling the technology the most feasible option to reduce aviation CO2 emissions in the near term. Read More » The global airline alliance said the organisation and its members were strongly committed to supporting an ambition statement on the 10% target by the World Economic Forum Clean Skies for Tomorrow Coalition. The alliance called for policy settings to “incentivise and grow SAF production”, including targeted investments and other support mechanisms, financial grants and regulatory assistance. “Sustainability is at the core of oneworld’s priorities and our backing of this important ambition statement today further underlines our commitment,’’ oneworld CEO Rob Gurney said. “Expanding the use of SAF will be crucial in decarbonising aviation in the near term but we recognise no airline can do it alone. We believe our support of the coalition’s statement will create more momentum for the industry’s efforts in sustainability and hope it will galvanise others to take action.” Asia-Pacific oneworld members are Cathay Pacific Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Japan Airlines and Qantas Airways. More than 40 companies have committed to the target including airlines, aircraft manufacturers, airports and SAF producers.
