Airbus chief commercial officer and head of Airbus international, Christian Scherer, forecast yesterday the Asia-Pacific will return to pre-COVID-19 levels within the next three years. Read More » “We are seeing a global recovery in air traffic. As travel restrictions are further eased the Asia-Pacific will again become one of the industry’s main drivers,” he said in a statement. "We are confident of a strong rebound in the region’s traffic and expect it to reach 2019 levels between 2023 and 2025." The Airbus global market forecast for 2021-2040, released last November, showed the region’s airlines are expected to take delivery of 17,620 new passenger and freighter aircraft to meet the likely demand for air travel.

In other Airbus news, Aviation Capital Group (ACG) has signed a firm order for 40 A220 aircraft. The order adds to the Tokyo Century Corporation-owned lessor's commitment for 40 A320neo family aircraft signed in December last year. “This order for 20 A220s from Tokyo Century’s Aviation Capital Group reflects the potential of the aircraft as a sound investment, including for investors based in the Asia-Pacific," Scherer said.
