Air New Zealand (Air NZ) has told customers wanting to take international flights they have until February 1 next year to be fully vaccinated as part of a “no jab, no fly” policy. Read More » The carrier told customers on Friday it will join other airlines in requiring passengers aged 18 and older to be fully vaccinated when flying with Air NZ and urged them to be prepared. Unvaccinated customers would need to provide proof that vaccination was not a viable option for medical reasons, airline said. Air NZ CEO, Greg Foran, said the company had been told by customers and employees that the mandatory vaccination requirement was important to them. Foran said mandating vaccinations would give both groups peace of mind. “Being vaccinated against COVID-19 is the new reality of international travel – many of the destinations Kiwis want to visit already are closed to unvaccinated visitors,’’ he said. “The quicker we get vaccinated, the sooner we can fly Kiwis to places like New York, Vancouver and Narita.” Foran acknowledged some would disagree with the policy. “However, we know this is the right thing to do to protect our people, our customers and the wider New Zealand community,’’ he said. “We’ll spend the next few months making sure we get this right, ensuring it works as smoothly as possible for our customers.” Air NZ is using the IATA Travel Pass to check customers’ health information against flight details to ensure they meet entry requirements at their destinations.
