COVID-19 an opportunity to rethink threat strategy says new ICAO boss

New International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) secretary general, Juan Carlos Salazar, believes COVID-19 offers a chance for the industry to rethink its approach to threats and update its strategies. Read More » Delivering the keynote address at the AVSEC Global Symposium, Salazar said "the pandemic has posed many challenges and taught us new lessons, driving us to adapt and evolve to maintain secure operations under very demanding circumstances’’. “As operators continue to recover from its impact, we have been presented with another opportunity to rethink our approach and update our strategies, and above all to stay flexible and responsive as international air transport recovers to redefine itself as threats continue to evolve,” he said. “ICAO is proud to serve as a nexus of strategic global partnerships and effective government and industry cooperation in support of these important efforts." Other speakers at the symposium, which was organized by Emirates Group Security, include INTERPOL Innovation Centre director, Anita Hazenberg, and UK Parliamentary Undersecretary of State, Robert Courts. More than 700 delegates from 50 countries are attending the Dubai gathering which concludes tomorrow.
