AirAsia Thailand is predicting a stronger fourth quarter tourism recovery as it expands its flight schedules this month by adding nine routes to the 11 already back in operation. Read More » The October expansion will see services added from Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport to Phitsanulok, Nan, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Surat Thani, Krabi and Trang. Also coming are the regional connections, Chiang Mai-Hua Hin from October 15, and Chiang Mai-Phuket from a day later. AirAsia Thailand chief executive, Santisuk Klongchaiya, said the expansion aimed to support government policies promoting domestic tourism along with improved health and safety measures. “We saw an encouraging response across all of our routes in September, achieving a load factor average of 75%-80% and [that] goes up to 90%-95% over the weekends, especially for flights to and from Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Hat Yai,’’ Santisuk said. “With our guests now becoming more familiar with the different travel requirements of each province, we believe tourism industry operators will begin to see a stronger recovery during the final quarter of this year.” The airline said the new services would maintain the highest health and safety standards to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with 100% of AirAsia staff vaccinated against the disease.
