Visitors to Hong Kong down by 98.5% in the year to August

Read More » The bad news was that year-to-date numbers were still down by 98.5%. The Hong Tourism Board figures show visitors from china jumped from 2,337 in August 2020 to 8,529 in the latest month. Visitors from non-mainland markets were up 8%, to 2,282, with some markets showing impressive percentage growth off a miniscule base. The number of travellers from short-haul markets other than those operating to China was almost flat. On a year-to-date basis, however, the numbers have declined from 3.54 million in the eight months from January to August 2020 to just 53,226 in the same period this year. There was no joy from any market using this metric with all of them showing falls of more than 97.5% and some, such as the U.S. and UK, plunging by more than 99%.
