The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) annual Assembly of Presidents, scheduled to take place in Taiwan in November, will now be conducted virtually due to ongoing travel restrictions in the region. Read More » The association had hoped to hold a physical meeting this year, but director-general, Subhas Menon, said this was not possible with international borders still closed across most of Asia. “Hence, together with our host EVA Air, we made the difficult decision to hold the Assembly of Presidents virtually for another year,’’ he said “We thank all stakeholders for their understanding.” Menon warned prolonged border closures had repercussions far beyond the aviation industry, seriously affecting economic and social wellbeing. “We sincerely hope governments will come together to pave the way for the smooth restoration of international air travel,’’ he said. “There is an urgent need for streamlined travel policies and practices, allowing much needed cross border business and social activity to resume.” The assembly will be restricted to member airline delegates, but the association will hold a separate virtual press conference to brief the media on the outcome of the gathering.
