Australia’s major domestic airlines and airports have joined forces to formulate an industry approach aimed at helping airline passengers navigate various state and territory travel requirements. Read More » The progressive opening of Australia’s internal borders means passengers are facing travel between destinations with differing vaccination rates and requirements. To help safely streamline that travel experience, the industry players have agreed a set of protocols that begin with website information, email and SMS reminders. They also include passengers declaring their eligibility to travel during online check-in, signing in using a QR code where necessary and confirming vaccination status. Mandatory mask wearing remains in force at Australian airports and on aircraft. “Given different vaccination rates and levels of community transmission around Australia, we know conditions will phase in and out at different times in different parts of the country,’’ said Airlines for Australia and New Zealand (A4ANZ) CEO, Alison Roberts. “We are working with each state and territory government, as well as the Commonwealth, to help simplify the process for travellers. We are encouraging governments to align their requirements as much as possible to avoid a patchwork of rules nationwide that make it hard for customers to follow.”
