Sydney Airport hosted just 42,000 passengers in September, down 98.8 % on the same month in 2019, as the impact of domestic and international lockdowns continued to ravage traffic. Read More » Domestic passenger traffic totalled 23,000 in September 2021, a decline of 99.0% over the corresponding period in 2019. The 19,000 international passengers who passed through Sydney Airport during the month represented 1.4% of the numbers using the airport two years ago. While international passenger remained low this year, due to border restrictions and arrival passenger caps, domestic passenger numbers surged to 1.35 million in May before the COVID Delta variant hit New South Wales and devastated the travel industry.
