Virgin Australia reports bookings surge as domestic restrictions ease

Virgin Australia (VA) experienced a 134% increase in bookings and website traffic surged after governments in the Australian states of Victoria and Queensland released details of their border re-openings. Read More » With both governments planning to ease border restrictions after vaccination rates hit certain thresholds, VA said Australian travellers were showing confidence about booking ahead with almost half of flights booked for travel in December and January. There also was a 150% increase in frequent flyer redemptions. The airline said popular flights included Melbourne-Brisbane and Melbourne and Queensland’s Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. “Already, we can see travellers are excited by the prospects of flying again, which has been evident from the significant uplift in website traffic and bookings,’’ a VA spokesman said.
