AIRPORTS: A Russian investment group, a Russian bank and Changi Airports International have signed a joint venture agreement to develop airports in Russia. Read More »

ALLIANCES: China Cargo Airlines will join SkyTeam Cargo. Alliance cargo members include Aeroflot, Air France-KLM Cargo, Alitalia Cargo and Korean Air Cargo. Oneworld has announced that SriLankan Airlines has been accepted as a member designate of the alliance and is expected to become a participating member in 2013.

BUSINESS: Fiji’s Air Pacific, which will soon return to its former name, Fiji Airways, has reported a profit of US$11.4 million for the year to March 31, a drop of more than 50% over its previous 12 months. Japan Airlines, fresh from its financial resurrection, intends to relist its shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. 

CARGO: Singapore Airlines Cargo has signed a joint venture agreement with China Cargo Airlines to operate shared freighter services between Singapore and Shanghai.

ROUTES: Taiwan’s TransAsia Airways launched its inaugural daily scheduled flight between Taoyuan and Osaka in June. TransAsia is expanding its scheduled flight network to Japan following the signing of an Open Skies agreement between Taiwan and Japan late last year. In the next six months the carrier will launch services to five other destinations: Okinawa, Hakodate, New Chitose, Asahikawa and Kushiro. Korean Air will launch four-times-a-week non-stop services to Yangon, Myanmar, in September, using a B737-800.
