Indonesia pushes for vaccinated travel lane with Australia

Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, has proposed a vaccinated travel lane (VTL) system with Australia and says ministers from the two countries are discussing the policy change. Read More » Widodo raised the issue with Australia’s prime minister, Scott Morrison, during a meeting over the weekend at the G20 summit in Rome, according to Antara News. "I know the foreign ministers of the two countries have begun communicating about the possibility of the cooperation,’’ Antara quoted the Indonesian president as saying. “May VTL and mutual recognition of vaccination certificates materialize soon. I believe this will accelerate economic recovery.” On Monday, Australia announced it was introducing a two-way VTL arrangement with Singapore, allowing eligible fully vaccinated travellers from both countries to entry without undergoing quarantine. In October, Indonesia reduced quarantine periods from eight days to five. Last month, Widodo called for the implementation of the ASEAN Travel Corridor Arrangement Framework which is aimed at facilitating business travel.
