Embraer expects global demand for 10,900 new smaller aircraft worth US$650 billion over the next 20 years with the Asia-Pacific a clear leader in turboprop demand. Read More » In its latest 20-year commercial market outlook, launched at the Dubai Airshow, the Brazilian manufacturer said it expected global demand for 8,640 jets of up to 150 seats and 2260 turboprops. It forecast the Asia-Pacific will require 2,160 jets (25% of global demand) and 900 turboprops (39.8% of global). This would result in more than twice as many turboprops delivered to the region than to Europe or North America, both of which were forecast to need 430 aircraft. Asia-Pacific demand for jets also ranked highly, second to North America’s forecast of 2,710 deliveries but ahead of Europe’s expected tally of 1m770 jets. Embraer predicted demand in the region will be driven by a world-leading annual revenue passenger kilometre (RPK) regional growth rate of 4.2%. This put it on a par with Latin America, also expecting 4.2% annual growth, but well ahead of Europe (2.3%) and North America (2%). The strong growth is expected to see the Asia-Pacific airlines account for 41% of the world’s RPKs by the end of this decade. The Brazilian OEM also has announced a contract with Nigeria’s Overland Airways for up to six E175 jets.
