November 22nd 2021
Domestic passenger movements across the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) group more than tripled between September and October to top the million passenger mark for the first time this year. Read More » The increase from 362,000 passengers in September to 1.18 million in October stemmed from the removal of domestic travel restrictions. It contributed to a 28% month-on-month rise in passenger movements, to 4.1 million, for the group’s combined operations in Malaysia and Turkey. Airport officials are optimistic passenger traffic will continue to improve because of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) arrangements between Malaysia and Singapore as well as the Langkawi international travel bubble and the upcoming travel corridor between Malaysia and Indonesia. “The government to government initiatives to facilitate safe international travel will certainly contribute to the recovery of the aviation industry that has been severely affected by the imposition of travel restrictions due to COVID-19,’’ MAHB managing director, Iskandar Mizal Mahmood, said. “We are very optimistic there is an inherent demand for travel, be it for business or leisure.”
