India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation joined regulators worldwide in grounding the MAX in March last year after fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia. Like many countries, it allowed the jet back into service after extensive investigations in the U.S. and changes to its flight management software. SpiceJet is India’s only operator of the MAX. It has 13 of the type in its fleet as part of 2017 orders and options totalling 205 jets. Singh said he was excited to see the MAX back in operation. “The return of the MAX will be a game-changer for SpiceJet and allow us to offer a vastly superior flying experience to our passengers,’’ he told Indian media. “After the intense scrutiny this aircraft has gone through, I can say with full confidence it is the safest aircraft to fly." Earlier this month, SpiceJet announced it had reached a settlement with Boeing about the MAX grounding.
