Survey finds passengers who travelled during COVID-19 are likely to do so again

Travellers remain highly positive about air travel and have developed a more considered and informed view of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new survey has found. Read More » The ASQ Global Traveller Survey was launched by Airports Council International (ACI) World on the second day of its global annual conference in Cancun, Mexico. It suggested people who have already returned to air travel had found the experience to be safe and secure. About 48% of respondents had flown since the beginning of the pandemic and the survey suggested these people were more likely to travel by air again sooner and more frequently. In contrast, those that had yet to fly tended to be less confident as they had not experienced the changes airports had implemented across the passenger journey. Uncertainty was intensified by the lack of harmonized measures across governments, particularly regarding international travel, ACI World said. The survey revealed “polarised results” when it came to vaccination status, the association said. “Even though all respondents are equally interested in travelling by air again, vaccinated respondents, although protected by the vaccine, retain concerns about their safety when travelling and want clear reassurance the airport environment is safe,’’ the airport industry group said. “Such results highlight the importance and relevance of the ACI Airport Health Accreditation program which assists airports by assessing how aligned their health measures are with global standards and by building passenger confidence.” Resolutions passed at the annual conference highlighted the importance of industry alignment on health and hygiene issues, the need to promote sustainable development in aviation and the goal of achieving a modernised global policy on airport charges.
