Cathay Pacific Airways cuts passenger flights over Christmas: report
November 26th 2021
Cathay Pacific Airways is reportedly cutting passenger flights in the peak Christmas-New Year season as it converts some inbound services to cargo only. Read More » A report in The South China Morning Post blamed a looming staffing shortage over the Christmas and New Year holidays for the decision to pare back long and short-haul passenger flights. It said about a third of inbound December flights operating under the airline’s “closed loop” arrangement will be converted to cargo only while outbound flights will operate as scheduled. The news report quoted a Cathay Pacific spokeswoman as saying Hong Kong’s operational and travel restrictions continued to constrain the company’s ability to operate flights. “We are consolidating our passenger flight schedules for December 2021, including cancelling a number of flights to Hong Kong,” she told the newspaper. Under the closed loop system, Cathay Pacific aircrew are confined to their hotel rooms between flights and must quarantine for up to 14 days after returning home. The airline did not respond to an email from Orient Aviation by deadline.
