Omicron prompts India to extend international flight suspensions until late January

The suspension of scheduled international commercial passenger services to and from India has been extended by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) until 11:59 pm on January 31. Read More » A circular posted by the DGCA said the restriction would not apply to international all-cargo operations and international scheduled flights could be allowed on selected routes on a “case-by-case basis”. Indian authorities said the extension was prompted by worries about the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Scheduled passenger flights to and from the sub-continent have been suspended since March 23. India is one of a number of countries to strengthen border restrictions or testing requirements in response to Omicron.
