High-speed rail (HSR) has eroded the profits of airlines in China and beyond in growing numbers, especially on routes of less than 500k metres. Now, in an ironic twist, HSRs are being used as supplementary feeder traffic bringing more passengers to both sides.  Read More »

China Eastern Airlines (CEA), the first Chinese airline to sell HSR tickets, recently announced upgraded services between its hub in Shanghai with the Shanghai Railway Bureau.

CEA has enhanced connections between Shanghai’s Pudong and Hongqiao airports to Hangzhou, Suzhou, Ningbo, Wuxi, and Changzhou. HSR frequencies have been increased from 22 a day to 92.  

Meanwhile, CEA and Hainan Airlines have partnered with the Shanghai Railway Bureau and Yuhei Railway respectively in partnerships that allow passengers to transfer between domestic rail travel and international air travel on one single ticket.
