IATA financial monitor shows losses widening at Asia-Pacific carriers

Airlines across the region suffered increased losses in the third quarter of calendar 2021, figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) financial monitor show. Read More » The 28 Asia-Pacific carriers included in the report posted a collective net loss of US$3.2 billion for the quarter compared with a net loss of US$1.9 billion in the second quarter. IATA said Asia-Pacific airlines had the weakest operating results of the five regions covered in the monitor, "notably due to still very restricted international travel to, from, and within the region". Asia-Pacific airlines have reported negative earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margin of -20%, compared with an overall -2.6% EBIT margin for the 87 airlines included in the report.
