January 25th 2022
Japan Airlines (JAL) and logistics company, Yamato Holdings Co (YHD), have announced plans to establish domestic freighter operations by April 2024. Read More » Under the partnership, JAL's LCC unit, Jetstar Japan, will operate three A321ceo passenger-to-freighter conversion (P2F) aircraft, with a maximum payload of 28 tonnes, between Tokyo Haneda, Tokyo Narita, New Chitose, Kitakyushu and Naha airports. "YHD will introduce the freighters and entrust the JAL Group with the operations. The purpose of the introduction is to adopt a new means of transport to maintain and increase the level of service and transportation capacity YHD has achieved up to now using trucks, rail, ferry and the cargo space of passenger aircraft," the partners said in a joint statement. "Meanwhile, JAL also needs to secure transportation capacity as it adjusts to the situation of downsizing its fleet while increasing frequency of domestic operations due to long-term population decline and the COVID-19 pandemic, which is impacting cargo operations."
