Japan Airlines (JAL) has scrapped its existing domestic fare structure in favour of a streamlined approach for bookings made after May 17, 2022 and for its departing flights from April 12, 2023. Read More » The airline’s nine domestic fare types will be simplified to three categories - Flex, Saver and Special Saver – "to make the fare structure simpler and easier to understand", JAL said. The pricing of JAL's domestic business class, known as Class J, and first class fares, also has been revamped. These fares will no longer be based on a fixed amount above the economy class fare common to all routes. Additionally, fares will be introduced for domestic itineraries involving connections that will be cheaper than the sum of the fares for each segment. "We also will introduce fares that offer savings in various situations, such as round-trip and connecting flights, and 'award ticket PLUS' in which the number of miles varies depending on congestion, to offer fares that are more comprehensible, economical and convenient to use," the oneworld alliance member said late last week.
