Garuda Indonesia: signed a third contract for A330s in two years in April |
Garuda president and CEO, Emirsyah Satar, said his airline’s recent increased frequency to Shanghai and Beijing were based on his conviction that air traffic would continue to grow this year despite the uncertain economic climate.
In April, during a visit to Indonesia by British Prime Minister, David Cameron, Garuda signed a firm contract for 11 A330s, the third order the Indonesian carrier has made for the aircraft type since 2010. “The A330 has proven to be a key element in the success of a revitalised Garuda Indonesia,” said the airline president.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Indonesia’s president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
Garuda said it had 21 A330 aircraft on order from Airbus, which was part of a fleet revitalisation plan to add more than 100 aircraft to its fleet, as well as to boost the fleet of its low-cost domestic subsidiary, Citilink, to satisfy escalating domestic demand.
