China Eastern Airlines reports January decline in domestic passengers

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) flew 4.97 million passengers on domestic flights in January 2022, down 2.6% from 5.1 million in the same month in 2021. Read More » In contrast to the year-on-year decline, the January 2022 figure was up 4.4% month-on-month from the 4.8 million domestic passengers CEA carried in December. Domestic passenger load factor for the reported period was 56.3%, CEA said, compared with 60.4% in January 2021 and 59.3% last December. "The COVID-19 pandemic still has a significant impact on the air transportation business of the company. The time span and severity of it has great uncertainty," CEA said in its monthly traffic report.
