Less than 10% of airlines headed by a female CEO; IATA report

The International Air Transport Association's (IATA) economics unit has collated figures from FlightGlobal that show 6% of airlines worldwide were led by a female CEO or chief operating officer in 2021. Read More » The number increases to 12% for chief information officers, 13% for female chief commercial officers and chief financial officers, and 40% for human resources director positions. The airline lobby group said 100 signatories have committed to its 25by2025 campaign. The campaign was launched in 2019 and aims to increase women in senior positions and under-represented roles by 25%, or up to a minimum of 25%, by 2025. There also will be annual reporting on key diversity metrics. "In pure economic terms, all forms of under-representation of a group of persons in the workforce are akin to reducing the available pool of labour and will lead to inferior economic outcomes for all," IATA said.
