Read More » The smallest proposed increase is 300 yen (US$2.56) to 1,800 yen for flights from Japan to Korea and Far East Russia. As the routes increase in length, so does the amount of the fuel surcharge. The biggest increase proposed is for services to Europe, the Middle East, North America and Oceania, where surcharges are intended to rise from 2,700 yen to 20,200 yen. Fuel surcharges are set on a bimonthly basis and are calculated from the two-month average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel, JAL said. If approved, the surcharges will apply to tickets purchased in Japan between April 1 and May 31.
