EVA Air returns to profit on crest of air cargo wave

EVA Airways (EVA) has reported a net profit of TW$6.6 billion (US$234 million) for the 12 months to December 31, swinging back to the black from a net loss of TW$3.4 billion in fiscal year 2020. Read More » Operating revenue rose 16%, to TW$103.9 billion, EVA said in a regulatory filing to the Taiwan stock exchange. Operating expenses declined 4.4%, to TW$9 billion. EVA president, Clay Sun, told local media the Star Alliance member's cargo revenue increased 70%, to TW$85 billion in 2021, but passenger revenue collapsed by 68%, to TW$7.8 billion. The carrier group had an upbeat outlook for the air cargo business, Sun said.
