Hong Kong executes policy U-turn on flight bans and quarantine

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) chief executive, Carrie Lam, said yesterday bans on flights from nine countries will be lifted on April 1 and hotel quarantine on arrival will be cut from 14 days to seven days from the same date. Read More » Flights to Hong Kong from Australia, Canada, France, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States have been prohibited since January as HKSAR government fights to halt the spread of COVID-19, particularly the Omicron variant. International arriving passengers will be permitted to leave hotel quarantine after seven days provided they return negative tests for COVID-19 on the sixth and seventh days of isolation. Hong Kong reported 14,145 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, from a peak of 56,827 new daily infections on March 3. The HKSAR is facing one of the highest death rates from COVID-19 in the world, report health experts.
