China Southern Airlines reports US$1.9 billion annual net loss for 2021

China Southern Airlines (CSA) has recorded a net loss of 12.1 billion yuan (US$1.9 billion) for the 12 months to December 31, 2021, edging deeper into loss-making territory from a net loss of 10.8 billion yuan in 2020. Read More » Operating revenue increased by 9.8%, to 95.3 billion yuan, CSA informed the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Operating expenses were 6.6% higher, at 116.3 billion yuan. In its financial results, CSA wrote that “China's aviation industry was showing a trend of gradual recovery and improvement. However, there was high uncertainty for the outlook in 2022”, the airline said. "The group will pay close attention to the pandemic situation and changes in the aviation market, adjusting operation strategies in a timely manner," it said. "We will increase inputs in domestic transportation capacity, optimize international layout, continue to enhance market control, optimize market structure, spare no efforts to pursue time slot resources, establish a management system for high-value clients and consolidate cooperation with airlines."
