Qantas Group seals A220, A321XLR and A350 orders with Airbus

Australia’s largest airline group has confirmed its previously announced Project Winton order for 20 A220s and 20 A321XLRs. Read More » It also cemented its commitment for up to 12 A350-1000s that will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. The wide-bodies will operate nonstop from Australia's east coast to London and New York. The ground-breaking ultra long-haul routes are scheduled to commence in 2025. The narrow-body order will replace the group’s fleet of 75 737-800s and 20 717s, with deliveries to begin from the second half of 2023. Qantas Group also confirmed the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine as the propulsion system for the new narrow-body fleet that will serve the group’s domestic and regional short-haul networks. The Pratt & Whitney deal includes a long-term agreement with the airline group for it to service the GTF engine fleet with its EngineWise MRO program. The landmark order is in addition to an existing Qantas order for 109 A320neo family aircraft including the A321XLR for LCC subsidiary, Jetstar. In December 2019, the Qantas Group announced it had chosen the A350 platform as its preferred aircraft for its Project Sunrise ultra long-haul flights. A final decision on the fleeting was scheduled for March 2020, but was delayed by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
