Qantas loses court appeal on outsourcing airport ground handling jobs

An Australian court has dismissed an appeal from Qantas to overturn a July 2021 ruling that the airline illegally outsourced ground handling jobs when it cut 1,680 staff from its payroll in November 2020. Read More » Qantas had sought to overturn the July 2021 Federal Court of Australia decision that it breached Australian laws when it chose to outsource ground handling work at 10 airports. However, on Wednesday the full bench of the Federal Court dismissed the company's appeal. Following the ruling, Qantas said it will seek leave to appeal the decision in the High Court of Australia, the country's highest judicial body. "Today’s judgment does not mean Qantas is required to pay compensation or penalties," Qantas said. "We will be asking the Court to stay any further hearings on this issue until after the High Court process."
