Australia’s competition regulator canvases industry views on Qantas Alliance Air acquisition

Read More » On May 5, Australia’s flag carrier, which holds 19.9% of Alliance, announced it had reached an agreement to acquire the shares in Alliance it did not own. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has written to interested parties seeking feedback on the Qantas Group proposed purchase. In particular, the ACCC letter asks for views on how closely Qantas and Alliance competed for charter and/or regular public transport (RPT) services, if there are sufficient alternative suppliers to maintain competition, the effect of the acquisition on price, quality or service levels for charter and/or RPT services and the impact if Alliance ceased providing aircraft leasing or associated aviation services to other airlines after the proposed acquisition. The deadline for submissions is June 3.
