Renewed Hong Kong International Airport licence includes third runway

Hong Kong's Civil Aviation Department (CAD) is issuing Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) with a renewed aerodrome licence that covers the new third runway, new terminal infrastructure and changes in the airport’s boundaries. Read More » “The third runway is planned to commence operations this year as scheduled,” AAHK said. Security searches and checks were done on the third runway, its associated taxiways and at buildings including the Airport North Fire Station and Observation Facility before the licence was formally amended. When opened the third runway is forecast to lift Hong Kong International Airport's (HKIA) capacity to 100 million passengers and nine million tonnes of cargo a year by 2030. In 2019, the last full year before the onset of the pandemic, HKIA handled 71.5 million passengers and processed 4.8 million tonnes of cargo.
