June 7th 2022
SpiceJet has confirmed media reports it has been fined Rs.10 lakh (one million rupee, or US$17,817) by India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a penalty related to the airline's 737 MAX pilot training. Read More » In a regulatory filing to India' BSE stock exchange, the DGCA had observed 90 of SpiceJet’s pilots being trained on the 737 MAX. “As per the advice of the DGCA, the company restricted these 90 pilots from operating MAX aircraft until they undergo re-training to the satisfaction of DGCA,” SpiceJet said. “The DGCA has imposed a penalty of Rs.10 lakh based on its audit observations.” Local media reported last week SpiceJet was fined because the observed pilot training involved a faulty simulator. SpiceJet said it had 650 pilots trained to fly the 737 MAX and the restrictions on those 90 pilots did not impact its 737 MAX flights. “The company has adequate trained pilots available for its operations,” it said.
