China Southern Airlines reports 3.4 million domestic passengers flown in May

China Southern Airlines (CSA) carried 3.4 million passengers on its domestic network in May, down 71.5%, from the 11.8 million in-country passengers flown in the same month in 2021. The figures indicate market conditions may be improving after recent government restrictions, imposed to contain fresh Mainland outbreaks of COVID, hammered demand. Domestic passenger load factor for the 31 days was 60.5% compared with 41.7% and 56.6% in May 2021 and April 2022, respectively. Domestic capacity for the month was up 48.7% compared with the previous month and down 60.7% from the year-ago period, CSA said.
