Qantas Group carriers are cutting flights across their domestic networks until March 2023 in response to rising fuel prices. Read More » The Qantas Airways and Jetstar schedule changes follow the group’s recent announcement that its domestic capacity will be 106% of pre-COVID-19 levels in the three months to December 31, and increase to 110% in the first quarter of 2023. “These reductions, combined with robust international and domestic travel demand, are expected to help the group substantially recover the elevated cost of fuel indicated by forward oil prices,” Qantas said. The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) most recent jet fuel monitor showed fuel prices in Asia and Oceania had risen 131.9% in the 12 months to mid-June this year. Qantas has reaffirmed its previous financial guidance of a significant full-year underlying loss, before interest and tax (EBIT), for the 2021-2022 financial year, but added it was “on track to return to underlying profit” in 2022-2023.

In other Qantas news, the oneworld alliance member will launch non-stop routes from Perth, Western Australia next month. Perth-Johannesburg will operate three times a week with A330s from November 1 and Perth-Jakarta, also to fly three times a week, from November 30 with 737-800s.
