Airbus's UpNext subsidiary has launched a flight test program to study the contrails made by a hydrogen combustion engine using two modified gliders. One Arcus glider will be equipped with a hydrogen combustion engine and a second with a conventional kerosene-powered combustion engine. The test flights will compare contrails emitted by each glider at high altitudes.

Separately, the air framer confirmed an easyJet order for 56 A320neo family aircraft, including up gauging of 18 A320neos to the larger A321neo.

Boeing and Azerbaijan Airlines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the purchase of four 787-8s and lessor, BBAM Limited Partnership (BBAM), has ordered nine 737-800BCF (Boeing converted freighter) aircraft.

In other Boeing affiliated news, Air France has signed a five-year contract for the Jeppesen Crew Rostering program. The airline already operates the Jeppesen Crew Pairing product. Additionally, Albawings, Corendon Dutch Airlines and Virgin Atlantic have selected Jeppesen FliteDeck Advisor (FDA) to improve operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Jeppesen is a fully-owned subsidiary of Boeing Company.

At the airshow, Boeing also committed US$50 million to help launch a second venture fund with AE Industrial Partners for investment in innovative aerospace and defence start-ups.

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited announced Ethiopian Airlines Group has signed a proposal to purchase two Dash 8-400 freighter large cargo door (F-LCD) conversion kits with two options.

Eve Holding has agreed a non-binding Letter of Intent with Embraer and BAE Systems to “explore the potential order of up to 150 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles with the aim of examining the aircraft application for the defence and security market”.

Pratt & Whitney has received more than 1,000 orders for its GTF engine to date in 2022.

Rolls-Royce and ITA Airways have signed for the OEM’s TotalCare maintenance package for the Trent XWB engines powering the Italian airline's A350s.

At the airshow, Rolls-Royce also said it will partner with easyJet on the H2ZERO program to develop hydrogen combustion engine technology capable of powering a range of aircraft from the mid-2030s.
