Rex and Dovetail to test retrofitting electric engines on the airline’s fleet

Australia’s Regional Express (Rex) and Dovetail Electric Aviation have signed a strategic partnership to develop and certify the retrofitting of electric engines on regional and general aviation aircraft. Read More » In a joint statement, the partners said a Rex aircraft will be a flying test bed for the project and that the airline will provide MRO support and technical assistance, among other resources, for the program. The tests will operate with Dovetail's MagniX engines, which the companies said are 30%- 40% quieter than the engines now being flown on regional and general aviation aircraft. The retrofitted airplanes also could reduce operating costs by 40%, the partners said. “Dovetail promises to deliver the holy grail of aviation: true sustainability; lower maintenance and operating costs and less waste as a function of the reuse of existing aircraft,” Rex deputy chairman, John Sharp, said.
