Thai AirAsia posts US$200 million interim loss

Thai AirAsia (TAA) owner, Asia Aviation Public Company (AAPC), has reported a net loss of 7.1 billion baht (US$200 million) for the six months to June 30 compared with a net loss of 3.6 billion baht in the previous corresponding period. Read More » Revenue improved 90%, to 4.6 billion baht, AAPC said in a regulatory filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). Total expenses increased 46%, to 12.4 billion baht. The company noted its latest financial report recognised 100% of TAA's net loss compared with 55% of the LCC's results in its 2021 financial report. TAA's seat capacity in the second quarter of calendar 2022 was 33% of pre-COVID-19 levels in the second quarter of calendar 2019. “Our strategy is to seek short-term cash flow opportunities while focusing on long-term sustainable growth,” AAPC and TAA CEO, Santisuk Klongchaiya, said. “We expect the positive sentiments to continue for the rest of the year and potentially see second half 2022 as being our best half-yearly performance in three years.”
