Australian carriers struggle to meet on time performance targets

Above one in two Qantas domestic flights arrived at their destinations 15 minutes later than their scheduled arrival times in July, Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) reports. Read More » The airline had an on-time arrival rate of 47.1% for domestic flights for the month, the lowest of all airlines. Virgin Australia was at 52.6% for on-time arrivals, defined as reaching the gate less than 15 minutes after the scheduled arrival time. Qantas Group LCC subsidiary, Jetstar, was at 51.5%. Regional Express (Rex) topped the list at 68.3%. BITRE said the month’s on-time arrival performance was impacted by weather, congestion and other COVID-19 related issues. The July figures were significantly lower than the long-term average of 81.9%.
