Virgin Australia and Qantas vie for more Bali capacity

Read More » VA has applied for 172 seats of passenger capacity on an extra Melbourne-Bali flight a week. Qantas Group has asked for more seats on some up gauged Sydney-Bali flights. Both airlines argue there is a public benefit to their applications. VA said its proposal was superior in capacity compared with its rival’s request, which seeks to fly wide-bodies on the route but only in periods of peak demand. Qantas said its customers strongly preferred the A330’s larger premium cabin to the 737-800 on the Sydney-Denpasar route and that the wide-body could carry 12 tonnes of freight per flight. The IASC manages Australia’s air traffic rights.
